Skin Ailments And What You Can Do About Them
What You Need To Know About Rosacea
Rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness and pimples on the nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. It can also cause burning in the eyes and eyelids. No one really knows what causes rosacea, but it tends to run in families and in those with fair skin.
There are common triggers that can cause a flare-up of rosacea. Exercise, sun exposure, alcohol, stress, and spicy foods are just some of the offenders.
Treatment consists of several things. Avoidance of triggers is the least invasive. Patients should wear a sunscreen daily. Topical and oral antibiotics can be useful to treat flare-ups. Retinoids like retin A can also be used as treatment. More advanced treatments include Intense Pulse Light (IPL) or photorejuvenation procedures can greatly decrease the redness associated with rosacea.

Tinea Versicolor - I’ve got spots!
Tinea Versicolor is a fungal infection that usually affects more sweaty areas like the back or chest. You may notice hypopigmented spots that never seem to go away no matter how hard you wash or scrub. You may also notice that it never tans as well. What is one to do—give up dating? Say goodbye to halters and backless dresses? Thankfully, tinea versicolor is easily treated. Get out of sweaty clothing as soon as possible and shower immediately. Using an anti-dandruff shampoo to wash your body in works quite well. The shampoo should contain selenium sulfide. These shampoos are available over the counter. Using a topical antifungal can be used as well. Lamisel spray is a convenient way of treating tinea since it can be sprayed on areas that would normally be out of reach—like the back for instance. If these topical treatments don’t work, see your doctor for other options including prescription medication.
